This past weekend a 47 youth, youth leaders, and young adults from Calvary Tabernacle went away to Camp Spofford, NH. In reflecting on the weekend, the words of Matt Maher’s song, “Christ Is Risen” (a sing that we sung numerous times), come to mind:
Oh death! Where is your sting?
Oh hell! Where is your victory?
Oh Church! Come stand in the light!
Our God is not dead, he’s alive! he’s alive!
It’s amazing (and AWESOME!) to experience what happens when we actually seek God earnestly, when we wait upon Him, and allow His light and truth to shine on our lives (the good, the bad, and the ugly parts). Men and women were set free this past weekend, and “those whom the Son sets free are free indeed” (John 8:36). Our theme was “Fake I.D” and so explored these concepts:
- Who does God say I am?
- Who does Satan say I am?
- Because of Sin, what are the I.D.O.L.S that define me now? (Items, Duties, Others, Longings, Sufferings)
- Who am I in Christ?
- How do I live out this NEW identity each and every day (2 Corinthians 5:17)
There were awesome times of worship – waiting in God’s presence and declaring His glory and power. The Spirit moved every time the Gospel was shared – in the sessions, in groups, and between individuals. We ate GREAT food, had a radical amount of fun (ice hockey, black light dodgeball, climbing wall, tubing, basketball…to name a few). One of the coolest things about the weekend was that we were totally unplugged. No students had cellphones, nobody was on facebook or twitter. We were fully present, enjoying the 52 hours we had together!
There were 2 students who made 1st time commitments to Jesus, and numerous others who made recommitments to the Lord. There were some who ENCOUNTERED Jesus for the first time, and were filled with the Holy Spirit. As people shared testimonies on the Sunday morning, I was brought to tears (as i’m sure most everyone was). The greatest miracle that God can do is change an idolater & sinner into a worshipper. We saw that this weekend! What an AWESOME thing to witness!!
God is not dead, He’s ALIVE!
Thank you to everyone who supported this trip financially, with prayer, and in service. The Kingdom of God moved forward this weekend in a mighty way, because of your obedience and passion to serve the Lord. Thank you!
Now we look forward to taking over 20 of our middle schoolers to BreakOut conference from March 8th-10th. We are trusting that God would continue His work!!
