Small Groups at Cal Tab for 2013
In that short power-packed statement “Together Transformed” is found both the inspiration and motivation for doing life together in biblical community. God’s design is for believers to be deeply connected in community with other followers of Christ.
11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.
In fact, God has always been building a people for Himself- a family of faith that unites across the dividing lines of race, nationality, politics, and economics. God Himself exists in community as Father, Son, and Spirit, and out of that divine community flows His design for humans to be involved in relationships with one another.
In 2013 success at Cal Tab is defined by how effectively we move people from our large environments into Small Groups. We believe that Small Groups provide the best place for life change to occur. Paul reminds the believers in Philippi to keep the gospel as the foundation of their community, challenging them to “stand firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel” (Phil. 1:27).
Also, Paul in Ephesians 4 tells us that we are given spiritual gifts for the good and growth of our community (church) so that we grow together and mature.
In a Small Group, people study God’s word together and discuss the issues and challenges of life. It’s also where they pray, care for one another, and are missed if they don’t show up. As a small group Loves, Serves, and Grows together – they get transformed and can GO! transform others around them. Small Groups are not a nice addition to our ministry, they are the heart of our ministry. That’s why we place such a high priority on group life.
Small groups take on a variety of shapes and sizes, but however they look they are where believers join their lives for the purpose of maturing in the faith and engaging in God’s mission, where accountability is shared, where we provoke one another to love and good deeds, and where our love for one another is a witness of the love of Jesus to the world (John 13:35).
