Will you GO? (Part 2)
I’m always amazed at how Jesus entrusted us with furthering THE Mission. I mean, let’s be honest…we’re not exactly qualified for the job. I’m surprised that when Jesus invited the disciples to follow Him he didn’t make them say a prayer, force them to make a down payment for housing/food costs, sign a waiver, or complete a 6-week “How to be Jesus’ disciple 101” class. Either Jesus must know something about us that we don’t or maybe we’ve just forgotten who we are… I think the latter.
In Genesis 1:27 we see that God created us in His image, which means we are LIKE God, which means, we have God’s potential and power in us…it just needs to be unlocked. You see, when Sin came into the world (through Adam & Eve) our ability to be who God created us to be was QUENCHED. Only when we accept Jesus’ sacrifice and put our faith in God to forgive our sins can God’s power and authority be unlocked within us (Matthew 28:18-20) and only then do we have ACCESS to it to be witnesses in our world.
In Romans 13:14 Paul tells us to “put on Christ” and make no provision for the Sin. When you GO and commit to THE Mission of Christ you are no longer representing yourself. You are representing God. To understand this let me use an illustration: When someone is caught speeding and the cop pulls them over, the cop has been given the authority to give them a ticket. They can’t argue with him because he represents a higher authority. If they don’t agree, their issue is with the government – not the cop. The same is true when you GO for Jesus. You are under the authority of Christ. If someone has an issue with that, tell them to take it up with God. You are merely a mouth piece, and messenger proclaiming the Good News! And IT REALLY IS GOOD NEWS!!!!!
So, be BOLD and COURAGEOUS! God is with you and has given you the authority. Don’t be intimidated by what others say. You are a member of the Lord’s army!
