Can you believe it??
This devotion was motivated by Noel Cromhout’s message yesterday entitled What love, that we… If you weren’t there yesterday I highly recommend you listen to it!
“What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who he is or what he’s up to. But friends, that’s exactly who we are: children of God. And that’s only the beginning. Who knows how we’ll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him—and in seeing him, become like him. All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus’ life as a model for our own.” 1 John 3:1-3 (MSG)
It is quite amazing that we are called children of God, think about it. God is your Father, and He is also my Father. Let’s look into how this is possible, because it’s important to understand that us becoming children of God is NOT magic. It is the result of a transaction. It’s important to know that we were not always children of God. No, in fact we were once enemies, debtors, and criminals in God’s eyes – because of our Sin nature. We could not receive God’s blessing because we were not in His family.
But, because of God’s love…
…our deadness has been made ALIVE (Ephesians 2:5) in Christ. He who has Christ has life, he who does not have Christ does not have life.
…our debts have been FORGIVEN and cancelled (Colossians 2:13-14)
…we have been ACQUITTED of our wrong doing (Romans 3:24). God now sees us as Justified (just-as-if-I’d never sinned).
…we are now RECONCILED to God (Colossians 1:21, Romans 5:10) and have become FRIENDS of God.
Christianity is not magic. Jesus’ death was a transaction, whereby He (who was Sinless) took our Sin upon himself and suffered the punishment we deserved (dying a criminals death on the cross) so that we could be reunited with God and become children of God. God, who was our Judge, has now become our Father!!!
Watch this video and think about how it relates to what I have just spoken about…
