Should Christians participate in Halloween?

Living life as a Christian in a world like ours can be challenging and confusing.  How do we really involve ourselves in culture?  What do we do with technology and media such as Facebook, movies, and music?  How do we involve ourselves in many cultural traditions and holidays such as Easter, Christmas, and Halloween?  These holidays may seem innocent (or even good) on the surface but are they really?  Just because our culture or our families say these things are good does that make them good?  Not necessarily.  We must evaluate (make judgements) everything in society and respond in 1 of 3 ways…

…We RECEIVE it
…We REJECT it
…We REDEEM it

In our world there are some things we can RECEIVE (like good doctors advice, math education – things beneficial to our Christian lives), some things we must REJECT (like alcoholism, drug use – these things have no benefit to us) and some things that we can REDEEM (like technology, music – things that can be used for good and evil).  What should our response be to Halloween?

To help you make your decision, here are some passages in Scripture that I believe deal with the subject of Halloween: 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22, Philippians 4:8, John 17:15-19, Romans 12:1-2.

As you meditate on these passages be open to what the Spirit of God is saying to you.  My goal is to train & equip you to respond to this tradition, as well as other worldly traditions, in a Christ-like manner – not to just give you the answers.

So, after reading these passages and watching this video, what are your thoughts on Halloween?  Should we Receive it, Reject it, or Redeem it?
