“I will be WITH you!”
5. God is WITH US!
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
This promise is repeated throughout history to God’s people (Matthew 28:20). We serve a faithful God who will NEVER leave us nor forsake us. In fact, there is nothing we can do to escape God (Read: Psalm 139). He is EVERYWHERE! His name is written on our hearts, and we are bearers of His image – whether we accept it or not.
You may be thinking, well that’s kinda creepy?! Does that mean that God knows and sees everything I think/say/do? Well…yes. But it’s a good thing. I know there have been times in my life where I have so badly wanted to know what I was going through (hardship, temptation, sadness, anger) but was too afraid or embarrassed to tell anyone. Knowing that Jesus was there was a huge comfort and this is why:
“So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” – Hebrews 4:14-16
(note that the Greek the word for temptation (‘peirazo’) is the same as the word used for test, trial or challenge and implies a situation that is trying to learn more about the character, nature, or viability of someone or something)
Jesus is WITH you and He understands what it feels like to be tempted, threatened, spat on, abused, disrespected, neglected, taken for granted, hurt, lonely, stressed, and hated. He feels your pain and is there for you in your time on need. Turn to Him, He is the only one who can help you!
Jesus is constantly around us calling us to receive this help but Jesus needs us to want His presence, light, and peace. He will never force us to love Him or need Him. Today, receive His gift of Life and salvation.
