God is FAITHFUL!
2. God is FAITHFUL!
“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
- true to one’s word, promises, vows, etc.
- steady in allegiance or affection; loyal; constant: faithful friends.
- reliable, trusted, or believed.
We see here that God’s promise to Abraham (Read: Genesis 12:7) and to Moses (Read: Exodus 3:6-8) is being fulfilled with Joshua over 500 years later. Yes, the Israelites suffered much defeat, dispersion, and death (due to their unfaithfulness and turning away from God) but once they finally repented, turned back to God, and were obedient they enjoyed the fulfillment of God’s generous promises. We see all throughout Scripture how God kept his promises. In fact, Jesus Christ is a fulfillment of a promise God gave David (Read: 2 Samuel 7:11-16 then Matthew 21:9 ).
In a world of such uncertainty we must cling to a God who is certain. Remember that no matter how tough it gets, how hard it is to stand against temptations, how difficult it is to go on OUR GOD IS FAITHFUL. And this is how He is Faithful: Through Jesus Christ. Without Jesus we have no hope, because Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promise to us (Read: Acts 13:23). Only through Faith in Jesus Christ (not good works) can we inherit God’s promise (and escape defeat and death). He is the answer to every problem, every challenge, every battle.
Read 1 Corinthians 10:13. Know that God is Faithful in every situation!
