Be Strong & Courageous!
Read Joshua 1:6-9
“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

During this week, I’m going to pick out 5 important lessons that we can learn from this passage:
1. We need to be STRONG and COURAGEOUS! Being a Christian is not easy, if fact it can often feel like quite the opposite (Read: Matthew 7:13-14). It requires us to say NO to many temptations (desires), make some very tough decisions (at school, at home, on Facebook, late at night, when we’re hanging out with friends) and live a life that is opposite to the way the world says we should. How do we do this? Is it really possible?
I believe YES. You see, on your own it’s impossible! We are too weak to stand up against the tricks of the devil. We must turn to God and rely on His strength, through the power of Jesus Christ, to help us make these difficult decisions. Many Christians make the mistake of receiving Jesus as their Savior and then saying, “Okay God, thanks for salvation, but ill take it from here!” So they find themselves fighting against the world on their own, without any of God’s power, and they fall short. The Gospel is not just something you receive once-off and then you have to do life alone. No, the POWER of The Gospel saves you and then also gives you the strength and courage you need to live out the Christian life (Read: Philippians 2:13).
Remember that “Courage is not the absence of fear, it is taking action despite it.” When you face a difficult decision this week, remember that you can not make the right decision alone. God’s POWER enables you to make tough decisions. If you’re feeling weak right now, ask God to fill you with His Spirit and give you some Holy Spirit POWER! (Read Acts 1:8) We cannot live this life without His Spirit!!
